Funny
I appreciate that East Coast Dave in WA wants to come to Vince's defense as I believe that you can't blame him for accepting the offer to join the band,
...
what I can't understand why they choose him. Rumors had it Paul Shaffer was in the running and while I can't say I fathom he could be much better that Vince, I'm not sure anyone could be worse. What gets me is East Coast Dave in WA's attack of Jerry and his personal battles. There would be no Grateful Dead without Jerry so to say he ruined what he essentially created is just silly. Anyhow, I was at this show and it stank. Great weather, cool scene, but an absolute stinker sleeper. The band's noise kept me awake or else I probably woulda caught some ZZZzzzZZZs. I'll give it 2*s since it only got worse :(

Mellow Show and Beautiful Wheel
I remember being taken by The Wheel at this show as Jerry delivered some gorgeous playing and the jumbo screens showed nature scenes which perfectly complimented
...
the song. At one point during the jam before the vocals his guitar sounds like a petal steel and his playing is crystal clear and beautiful throughout with the band adding nice compliments.

Not a good show, though I've heard worse
Pretty listless, on the whole. Low energy. Signs of life in the Space>Other One, other than that, the encore is the best part of the show (if you're

ok with The Dead covering The Who, I'm still not sure.....lol). Still, they've played worse shows than this one, even when Brent was around. Passable, but not noteworthy in any way. I have to take a moment to defend Vince. I think he gets used as a scapegoat by most heads who can't face the fact that JERRY'S USE OF HEROIN IS WHAT FUCKED UP THE BAND. It's not Vince's fault that Jerry was a junkie. If he was guilty of anything, it was that unlike Brent, his energy failed to pull Jerry out of his junked-out stupor for moments of inspired jamming. Sure his tunes weren't the best, but that's what most people thought about Brent's songs, so that's an unfair criticism. Vince did the best he could under the circumstances...... if you're looking for someone to blame, look at Jerry. I apologize for being harsh, but Vince and Jerry are both gone, and the above comments are far less disrespectful than what people are saying about Vince. RIP for both of them.

to tour with IMO. I believe him to be somewhat responsible for the plethora of mediocre shows on this tour. Oh and Wince(not to mention his songs) without the back up of Bruce has share of the blame as well. I'll never forget at the end of this tour Bobby says "say thanks Stevie". like they were doing him a huge favor by letting him tour with them. 2 and a half stars for the performance. don't know what this source sounds like. 5 stars for Buffalo.- cool people, cool campgrounds, Niagara Falls, and Canada only a short walk across the river and payment of 25 cents. had a grand time drinking up there. still a month short of 21. Canada's drinking age was 18 for some reason. I think only on certain days or certain times? I forget. I like Canada.

6-6-92
In response to Terrapin31590 recommendations for summer 92, I would also highly recommmend the first night of Richfield (6-8-92) and the first night of

Knickerbocker (6-11-92). Personally I think both of those are stronger shows than the 6-20-92 RFK Casey Jones bust out, but that's just my take on it.

I agree with the reviewer before me on all counts. Average show and his comments on Vince are on the money. Nothing against the guy but he never expanded

or brought any energy to the band. I liked baba as well, wish they played it more instead of I fought the law as an encore every other night.
Not exactly a ringing endorsement I know, but this set 2 only SBD of 6/6/92 shows the Dead competently performing a good set list of music. This version

appears to be the monitor mix as brief comments like "quarter", "hold it", etc are heard through the music. I like that inside the bubble feel but the sound itself seems low through most of the set. Iko kicks off solidly, if unspectactularly followed by a great Estimated>Same Thing. Just a side comment, but this was Vince's first tour sans Bruce and by this point about 100 shows under his belt, I am really surprised at how limited his range was in terms of creating interesting leads for the keyboard. Between the shows and Bruce's tutelage I would have thought Vince would have soared by this point, but it's just not the case. While he does provide some nice support groove to Estimated and the Same Thing it seems like he and Jerry just don't JIVE like Jerry and Bruce (and certainly not Keith or Brent). To me, Vince does much better on "bob" tunes like estimated than Jerry tunes like "He's Gone" and that is certainly the case here. Drums>Space is actually a highlight itself, with the locomotive theme that would be used to great effect 6/20 with the Casey Jones bust out melting into a nice Other One. Weir is not on the top of his game, he flubs a number of lines on Throwing Stones and frustratingly cuts off a couple of percolating jams, most particularly a brief Spanish Jam out of Space that leads to an awkwardly sung first verse of the Other One since the time signature is all out of whack. I might be in the minority, but I like Baba>TNK, I like Vince's pipes and he really digs into the material. This is a solid show from 1992, I would recommend the December 1992 run in Oakland and the aforementioned 6/20 if you want to get the cream of the crop.
